Standing Up for Human Rights: Amnesty International and Corris on the Road Together

For one week, our dialogue fundraisers were active throughout German- and French-speaking Switzerland on behalf of Amnesty International Switzerland. Their mission: to raise awareness for human rights – and to collect donations.

International Human Rights Day

On 10 December 1948, the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in response to the experiences of the Second World War and the grave crimes of nationalism. Since 1950, 10 December has been observed as International Human Rights Day. On this day, activities take place worldwide, ranging from lectures and discussions to church services and letter-writing campaigns.

For more than 20 years, Amnesty International has organised the well-known Write for Rights (letter-writing marathon), during which people from all over the world send letters, emails and postcards to individuals whose rights are under threat. These messages are forwarded via embassies directly to presidents, ministers or other decision-makers in the respective countries – with proven impact.

The “Light up Freedom” Candle Campaign

To draw attention to this important day, we planned a one-week special campaign together with Amnesty International: the so-called Candle Campaign under the slogan “Light up Freedom”.

As part of the campaign, 5,000 rolled beeswax candles were used, each packaged in an envelope. Our site coordination team selected and organised 28 locations across German- and French-speaking Switzerland, with high pedestrian traffic as a key criterion. Each day, eight to ten dialogue fundraisers were deployed across three locations. In total, 74 dialogue fundraisers were active for Amnesty International – a logistical and organisational effort that truly paid off.

One week before the campaign launch, Amnesty International provided comprehensive training for our dialogue fundraisers. Topics included effective conversation techniques and background information on the candle campaign. On Monday morning of the campaign week, a final internal briefing was held with the teams before they headed to their locations, highly motivated.

The On-Site Campaign

The task of our dialogue fundraisers was to engage passers-by in personal conversations, inspire them about the work of Amnesty International, collect donations and distribute the 5,000 beeswax candles at the same time. With great commitment, all candles were successfully handed out. We accompanied two of our dialogue fundraisers from the warehouse to their stand location in Zurich. You can find the video of the campaign here.

F2F Events with Corris

In addition to classic face-to-face information-stand fundraising, we offer our existing clients so-called F2F events. These enable special campaign formats such as the candle campaign and create emotional, impactful encounters in public spaces. In the same week, we also had the opportunity to implement another exciting event for UNICEF Switzerland. You can find out more about it here.
